Melmoth Goes To College

Under the Irish educational system, students finishing secondary school are required to sit the Leaving Certaificate examiniations, after which their grades are converted into points, and the colleges they can get into are determined by the no. of points they get. Places are awarded on a point-competitive basis.

It was by this method that I ended up in Dublin City University.

I'd divide discussion of life in DCU up into two categories...
  1. Academic

    Pic of VDU, Keyboard and CDDCU like most other universities is divided up into a number of schools and my course is run by the people in The School Of Computer Applications.

    I'm currently in the third year of a four year Computer Applications degree course. The CA course has been rated as the top software course in the State, and certainly the employment rates are good - but IMHO, it's impossible to tell the quality of a degree w/o talking to the people with actual knowledge of it. The consensus amongst my friends seems to be that a couple of years ago our Computer Applications course wass seen as (one of) the best in the country, but that it may not be so any longer, due to overcrowding problems, and what soom see as an outdated syllabus.

  2. Extra-curricular
